Accessibility, also known as Universal Design, is the practice of creating Web sites that grant equal access to all users. Although well known by Web designers overall, Web accessibility is unfortunately an often neglected aspect of Web site creation. Many internet users use screen readers and other adaptive technologies to access the internet. If a site is not designed to accommodate these devices, these devices will not function properly. The result is that a large segment of the population are effectively shut out of the online community of your business or organization.

Fortunately, many aspects of sound Web design can prevent inaccessibility, such as the separation of form from content through the use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) technology, alternative navigation systems, descriptive text for images, and furnishing keyboard access to forms and other dynamic HTML content. For more information on accessibility, see the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) on the Web site of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

At Palmetto Web Productions, we take Web accessibility seriously. All our sites can be equipped with accessibility options which allow access to those with disabilities.
